Reminder: New Employer W-2 Reporting Requirements Begin in 2012

01/06/12 - Employers that filed 250 or more Form W-2s in 2011 must begin reporting the total cost of employees' medical coverage on their 2012 Form W-2s. Reporting for employers that filed fewer than 250 Form W-2s in 2011 is voluntary for 2012, but will be required starting with their 2013 W-2s. Michigan to Impose a 1% Medical Claims Tax in 2012

12/28/11 - Michigan’s legislature recently passed the Health Insurance Claims Assessment (HICA) Act, which requires a 1% tax on eligible health care claims incurred by Michigan residents. The law will only apply to health plan participants who are residents of Michigan; it does not apply to non-residents who happen to receive health care services in Michigan.
